CHS final exams now scheduled for Friday

CHARLESTON - Semester exams at Charleston High School are now scheduled for Friday after being postponed today because of a weather-related school closing.

An announcement from the school district said all exams will be given in an abbreviated, 30-minute format. There will be an early dismissal schedule in place.

Early bird classes will begin at 8:05 a.m. and regular first-period classes will start at 8:40 a.m. School will be dismissed for the day at 1:20 p.m.

" I'd like to know more info about CHS's Semester Exams.

We received our automatic message from CHS, stating that Friday, if the kids attend school, semester exams will now be given in a 30-minute format.

An hour & a half Semester Exams, now shortened to 30 mintues?

How is this possible, without the results, etc., being so badly skewed?

Is it being considered to possibly have CHS's Semester Exams after the Winter break, if Friday's attendance is a bust?
Or possibly, a couple of the days next week?

What's the deal here?

I invite/request someone from CHS, or the Charleston School Board to post online, here, & inform us all about this matter, further.

Thank You,
~Rotty "

" It looks to me that CHS should follow what MHS is doing & wait until after the Winter break, & then hit the students up within the first week, that they return.

Trying to cram a 1 1/2 hour exam into 30 minutes seems to be a little on the impossible side to me.

How about just letting the students get in their shortened schedule, if they even attend on Friday, do some holiday doings, then let them out on break? "

" One last thing....

Who's the Secret Santa at CHS, who's giving away $40 Gift Cards to only a certain select amount of students, & why?

(And before someone busts my chops.... Yes, my family was notified to come into the office today, to pick one up, from this "Secret Santa".)

My question is, why is only a select few students receiving these, instead of the whole populace of CHS?

What's the deal, here?

(And before someone busts my chops on posting, instead of calling them, I'm not a person who likes to "go quietly into the night", if you catch my drift. Those in the office had "no comment".)

Thanks,
~Rotty "

" Rotty,

I am in complete agreement about the finals at CHS, only I would have to add one more thing. MANY students were to receive review/study guides back from the teachers on Wednesday. I understand that the kids should know the material regardless, but they may have found a few things they needed to brush up on. When I questioned the high school AND the district office about this, all they would say is that "modifications will be made".

Also...I'm really on a soapbox about this subject...It baffles me that we received a call from the high school on Wednesday that the school would be open for students to come get materials to study from their lockers. Hmmmm...the weather was too bad for school to be held, but come on out and get your stuff!! We didn't get this call until 11:30 a.m. What about the students that do not drive and had parents at work that could not get there before 4pm? What concessions will be made if they receive a poor grade on the "Final" and it changes their grade for the course? I asked these questions today (again) and got no answers.

I am bothered by how unfair this could all be. "

" I think all of you angry republicans should stop bashing for school for giving students that did not make the mistake of living outside of town to come to the building to pick up study materials. I don't think that it is the school's fault that couples decide to reproduce; in fact, it is NOT their fault in the slightest bit. "

Rotty wrote on Dec 18, 2008 11:02 PM:

" Exactly, Mom03beez.
That was one of my gripes as well.
Closed, yet "the building's open, if you can make it in, to get stuff out of your locker".

I was just hoping someone from CHS, or the Board, would come online, & explain things better, because I believed there was many more folks out there, who had feelings such as ours.

A couple of posters, on the other article comment thread, obviously didn't have the same concerns as us, & probably many others.

Thank You for your good post, Mom03beez. "

" Guess it's a done deal, now.
Exams will wait until after break.
LOL

Have a great day, & be safe everyone!

By the way, Richard.... BOO!

" RUH ROH!

The self-appointed moderator wannabe has found this thread, finally.
LOL!

Take a deep breath, blondie2, & repeat after me....

Y-E-S W-E C-A-N!
Does that "change" it up for you?
LOL! "

" Wow, Rotty I think you are correct. Blondie2 is obviously much more intelligent than the rest of us, and much more annoyed at this point. I don't believe anyone said that making these types of decisions was easy, but anytime you are a decision maker, people will question them. It's the nature of the beast.

But again, thanks for your sunshiney positive attitude Blondie2. It makes my day. "

Where in the world would you get such an idea, blonde?

And hey, what's a soolution? "

Rotty wrote on Dec 20, 2008 11:12 AM:

" Exactly, beaches.
LOL!

Where is ole blondie2?
I want to GRIPE some more.
And I want to know more about her "soolutions".
(LOL @ HP!) "
