Former area resident honored for leadership

PEORIA — Lucinda McArthur, formerly of Charleston, was recently named one of the top 40 Leaders Under Forty by InterBusiness Issues magazine.

McArthur, a contract therapist for the Tazewell/Woodford County Children’s Advocacy Center, was honored along with 39 others under the age of 40 in the Peoria area.

McArthur provides crisis therapy, court preparation and advocacy to child and adolescent victims of sexual and extreme physical abuse. She also provides consultations to local law enforcement agencies, the Office of the State’s Attorney, the Department of Social Services and community agencies.

In addition, she is an active volunteer in the community and has served in a leadership position with the Junior League of Peoria since 1999. She has been instrumental in coordinating Dueling Pianos, a major League fundraiser.

She also is active in Juleps Closet, an annual clothing and household items sale that provides merchandise at a reasonable cost for Peoria-area residents.

She participates in the Kickapoo Council of the Girl Scouts special events and fundraisers, and the Cinderella Project at Manual High School, among other volunteer activities.

To recognize her dedication and hard work, McArthur was awarded the Junior League 2008 Volunteer of the Year Award. In 2007, she received the Presidential Volunteer Service award for contributing 534 hours of volunteer service.

She is the daughter of Andy and Evelyn McArthur of Charleston.
