Area Christmas tree farms have a lot to offer



Coles County

HAGER TREE FARM, Choose and cut Scotch and white pine trees; tinted, shaken, bailed and drilled, $3.50 per foot. Pre-cut Fraser and balsam fir trees, wreaths, greenery, roping, grave pillows, blankets and crosses, hot wassail and cookies. Bird-seed Christmas ornaments, pin-type tree stands, tree bags, and dug trees. Hours: Monday through Thursday after 3 p.m., Fridays through Sundays, 9 a.m. to dusk. Located 6 miles east of Charleston on Illinois Route 16; turn south on County Road 2250E (at the Enon Baptist Church sign). The tree farm is one-half mile on the west side of the road. 349-8689.

NORMAN’S TREE FARM, Scotch and white pine, three needle lengths; cut, shaped and shaken; up to 9 feet tall; $25 each; open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily; wreaths, greenery $2 a bundle; Cozy Lane, Charleston, take Lincoln Highway Road, 1¼ miles south of the Bible Center Church, Charleston. TUCKER’S TREE FARM, Fraser fir, blue spruce, white pine and Scotch pine; live, dug and baled trees; trees are shaken, netting available; drill system tree stands. Gift shop with wreaths, roping, grave blankets and pillows. Free popcorn and hot chocolate. From Mattoon, go to Coles Station on Illinois Route 121, turn north at County Road 000E and follow the signs. Open from 8 a.m. to  5 p.m. Friday through Sunday, through Dec. 20. 234-2917.

MANDANA PINES CHRISTMAS TREES, white and Scotch pines, Eastern balsam and Fraser firs; up to 14 feet; drilled, shaken and baled;  precut or in the field; wreaths, roping, tree stands, greenery bundles, tree disposal bags, grave blankets. Free refreshments. Go 4½ miles east of Charleston on Illinois Route 16. Open through Dec. 24, from 3 to 6:30 p.m. weekdays, 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturdays, noon to 6 p.m. Sundays; Eighth year in business. 345-5588.

SUGAR MOUNTAIN FARMS, Scotch and white pines, balsam and Fraser furs. Shaking, baling and drilling services for trees. Fresh-made wreaths and centerpieces. Kitchenview Clydesdale horseback rides and Santa Claus on weekends. Free cider tea and popcorn. Produce features southern pecans, citrus fruits and vegetables; and locally made soy products available. These items available in gift baskets for carryout and shipping. Amish-made jams and jellies. Clark County

Dahnke’s Pine Patch, wholesale and retail trees; choose and cut Scotch and white pine, $15-$25, white pine, Colorado and blue spruce, live; balled and burlapped trees $10-$13 per foot; wreaths; garland; grave blankets; pillows; saddles; swags; roping. Onie’s Acres AND Prairie cABINS, white pine, Scotch pine, balsam firs, $15 and up. Also, wreaths, door swags, roping. Inside the cabin are various gift items, etc. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Open house from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 6. Cumberland County

KELLER TREE FARM, Norway and white pine trees; $4 a foot for most trees. Cookies, hot chocolate and free candy canes for the kids, sleigh rides (weather permitting). Tag a tree or cut it and take it with you. Grave blankets and wreaths by order. The farm is located 4 miles southwest of Toledo and 5 miles north of Jewett at County Road 375N. Open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays only, 521-1934.

Douglas County

KISTLER TREE FARM, white and Scotch pines, balsam and Douglas fir; choose and cut; $10 and up; wreaths $10 and up; roping. Open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Located two miles north of Arthur and 2 miles east. Watch for the signs. 578-3367.

Edgar County

Stolz’s Christmas Trees and Greens, pre-cut Fraser fir, balsam fir, white pine and Scotch pine trees, along with wreaths, grave blankets, grave pillows and other holiday decorating items. Special orders are welcome. All trees and wreaths are on display inside a large machine shed. New tree drill: customers encouraged to bring their stand and they will set their trees. Open daily through Christmas Eve: 2 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Effingham County

Miller’s Green Tree Farms, white and Scotch pine, Fraser and Canaan fir, wreaths, roping, swags, grave pillows and blankets. Choose and cut patch, 5 miles west of Effingham on U.S. Route 40 at Arborcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Funkhouser, follow signs; open 8 a.m. to dusk Monday through Saturday, noon to dusk Sunday through Dec. 24; 342-4947 and 536-9280.

Moultrie County

GILMORE TREE FARM, Scotch and white pines, Fraser and Canaan fir, 7 to 9 feet tall; shaken and drilled. Wreaths, greenery, roping, tree stands and bags. Open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Located 1 mile west of Coles Station on Bruce-Findlay Road. 752-6741.

RIGHTER’S CHRISTMAS TREE FARM, customer- or farm-cut trees up to 7 feet, free shaking and baling; greenery, wreaths, grave pillows, assorted sizes; open noon to 5 p.m. Sunday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays through Dec. 24; located one-half a mile east of Sullivan on Illinois Route 121 and 1 mile north. Shelby County

HELM CHRISTMAS TREE FARM, Scotch pines; shaped, tinted; 3 to 12 feet, $10 each. Grave blankets $30; roping 50 cents a foot; wreaths $6 to $37; and pillows $15. Open sunup to sundown Monday through Saturday; noon-sundown Sunday. Located 5 miles west of Neoga on Trowbridge Road, watch for signs. 895-2400.
