Defined Perception to play in Charleston

CHARLESTON — Defined Perception from Carbondale will perform at 9 p.m. Friday at Mac’s Uptowners, 623 Monroe Ave.

With the release of their debut album “Open Your Eyes,” The band has had an extensive touring schedule, traveling all over Illinois and to other Midwestern states such as Missouri, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Arkansas.

DP has shared bills with nationally known acts such as Vince Herman of Leftover Salmon, Billy Nershi of String Cheese Incident, and Otiel and the Peacemakers, as well as regional touring groups The Station, Cornmeal, Madahoochi, Backyard Tirefire, Groovatron and Euforquestra.

The band draws from a variety of genres, such as rock, funk, newgrass, reggae, Latin, techno and jazz. Along with their original material, DP improvises with screaming guitar solos, and raging organ, pianos and synths.
