Lake Land College Foundation 2008 Art Heritage Show winners announced



MATTOON — A painting titled “Tree House,” created by Nancy Wabel of Mt. Zion, took home Best of Show honors at the Lake Land College Foundation 2008 Art Heritage Show held recently at Lake Land College.

The show, which featured the work of many local artists, is sponsored by First National Bank of Mattoon in the Amateur and Professional Division, and Prairie Field Folk Art and Craft Show in the Student Division.

The judge for this year’s contest was Ed Walker, chairman of the Millikin University Art Department. Walker has served in this position for 10 years and has been teaching design courses at Millikin for 15 years. He has a bachelor’s degree from Millikin and a master’s degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York.

Show winners in the professional category are as follows: first place, professional, John Gabb, Effingham; second place, Marcia Boroughs, Charleston; and third place Cathie White, Casey. Professional Honorable Mention went to Christina Detwiler, Effingham.

In the amateur category, the winners are first place, Barbara Brymmer, Mason; second place, Colby Julian, Paris; and third place, Nancy Guilliams, Effingham. Amateur Honorable Mention went to Courtney Heinzmann, Charleston; Claire Browning, Charleston; and Kari Rajkumar, Paris.

In the student division, the winners are first place, Taylor Oltman, Effingham; second place, Lea Board, Teutopolis; and third place, Kelsey Westendorf, Teutopolis. Student honorable mentions went to Amanda White, Mattoon; Valerie Niemeyor, Teutopolis; and Kaylee Tingey, Sullivan.
