Pizzeria owner puts his name behind biz

CASEY — Trent Groothuis (pronounced “great house”) has opened a restaurant with the goal of providing a great place for customers to enjoy pizza and more.

Groothuis opened The Greathouse of Pizza in late August at 904 N. Route 49 in Casey, between Interstate 70 and U.S. Route 40. This location was formerly home to Joe’s Pizza.

When he saw the business space was for sale, Groothuis said he decided to put his seven years of experience as a cook at Pagliai’s Pizza in Charleston to work opening a restaurant of his own.

Customers can choose from pizza in various sizes with either hand-tossed crust or pan crust at The Greathouse.

The restaurant offers a signature “Greathouse” pizza with sausage, pepperoni, mushroom, onion and green pepper. Other specialty pizzas include bacon cheeseburger, barbecue chicken, chicken and broccoli, taco, chicken alfredo, Hawaiian, vegetarian, and meat.

“All the ingredients are fresh. We spice our own sausage, make our own sauce, and shred our own cheese,” Groothuis said.

Groothuis said he uses recipes from the kitchen of his father, Nik, for the restaurant’s Italian beef sandwich as well as the sweet and tangy Catalina dressing on the poor boy sandwich. Other sandwiches on the menu include beef and chicken Philly, and hot ham and cheese.

The menu also include spaghetti, pasta alfredo and ravioli as well as a variety of appetizers and salads.

Groothuis said he offers a lunch buffet Tuesday through Friday that includes specialty pizzas, spaghetti, cinnamon sticks, and more.

The Greathouse of Pizza is open 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. and 4-10 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. and 4-11 p.m. Friday, 4-11 p.m. Saturday, and 4-10 p.m. Sunday each week. Casey and Martinsville deliveries are available 4 p.m.-close Tuesday through Sunday, with a fee.

The restaurant can be reached at 932-2220 for carry-outs, deliveries or other information. To see a full menu, go online to www.greathouseofpizza.com.
