Your thoughts on Obama's election

Barack Obama's victory marks the first time that a minority candidate has been elected president in U.S. history. His campaign resulted in near-record voter turnouts all across the country.

We want to know your reflections on the significance of Obama's election on the U.S. and/or to you personally.

" I wonder when the congress is going to call for investigations, in earnest, into all the voting irregularities like the 105% voter registration in Indiana. How can you get 105% registration? Oops...looks like ACORN did its job well doesn't it?

Isn't vote subversion like that expected in unstable Asian and African countries? Guess it's okay in the U.S. now too.

Last time democrats moaned about dangling chads now more people vote than can be registered to vote. But I guess it's okay when democrats do it and can get there own elected to the white house and overwhelming majorities in the house and senate...oh and just like in Chicago... and the state of Illinois.

Anybody else see a pattern here?

Looking more and more like communism every minute. "

Just to make it offical: the seas will not part; there will be clouds and storms still; gasoline will NOT drop to $1 a gallon and we will not be able to leave Iraq on Jan 21. Having said that, it will be interesting to see what he can do. We've seen what Bush has done.

In closing, it's a new beginning on the horizon. "

People want to say a Black man is the President-Elected of the United State of America, but they fail to acknowledge that he is also White.

With all that being said I feel that children will look at Obamas background and realize that they can do anything they put their mind to. Also, we are a part of history which is amazing! "

After hearing and seeing in the media, and reading in the paper about how "great" Obama is over the past two year, and now he's been elected the great messiah, anything less than the above, would be,...well disappointing. New direction for the country? Get real. BO is 'just another Democrat'. (McCain is 'just another Republican', also BTW) What has happened is that we've swapped one batch of politicians for another batch of politicians, swapped one bunch of "special interests" for another bunch of "special interests", swapped one set of party agendas for another set of party agendas. The "revolving door" of Washington once again. The Dems of the 90s are still there waiting for 'their turn' to pick up and finish what they started pre-'94 and their GOP counterparts will retreat to K Street lobby firms until the 'door' revolves again in two years when the moderate middle gets its belly full of 1 party government again.

And, from the way Bush-Cheney have so thoroughly crapped their--the GOP (Gouge Ordinary People)--nest, the Dems could have run Donald Duck (surprised they didn't) and won. So Big Whoop!

On a personal basis, BO is a step apart from "just another Democrat" to me......he's 'just another Chicago Democrat'! (Not a flattering description as most downstaters will attest) "

" Some months ago after watching a movie on my DVR I switched back to TV. Whatever channel was on, had a story about the anti-Christ. It was close to the top of the hour so I left the TV alone and read the newspaper. Toward the end of the program the reporter asked the "experts" what the anti-Christ would look like. This drew my attention so I listened in. Would he have hooves and horns? No, he would most likely be a politician. One that was young, dynamic, who's followers actually worshiped him. He would make promises about peace in the world, etc. They went on but I went back to my newspaper. On the news that evening there was a report on obama's "race" speech. As the camera panned the crowd and I saw the look on the faces of his followers, I thought back to the earlier program on the anti-Christ and a cold chill went up my spine. Since then I had kinda forgotten about it, then just a few minutes ago I saw a headline on a news channel that said "Obama: President of the World?" That chill came back. I haven't been to church for a while but maybe it's a good time to get back! Just in case. "

One must have a vision that can take them soaring into the future, Obama has that vision. His vision can take the United States and put it back on its feet to run once again. Until they prove otherwise, I am a supporter and am willing to give that chance. Just as I did President Bush. I supported President Bush during the first couple of years in office. Then my views, morals, upbringing, values, etc clashed with his and I am sorry that offends midright. I'm sorry that unwillingness to give someone a chance sounds like hatred to me. I have heard so many people report lies as if they are fact, and watched (in horror) as my white brothers and sisters followed them blindly. They then would repeat the same lies. I had researched both candidates, looking closely at their policies. I suggest the same, many of our citizens could benefit from making up their own minds. These same citizens then wonder why they are called racist or looked down upon by others. In case you did not know, you are looked down upon. Read and research outside of the news media, you might be surprised at what you learn. I believe Obama will be able to help many of our programs and hopefully close some of the racial divide in this county (God willing). I believe in giving a person a chance, if he messes up (don't know how he could mess up worse than the last guy) I will be among the others looking for a new president. In the meantime, how about some common sense from our citizens. I am happy that we are looked at in a good light, finally, across the pond. Sorry Neo, but that one was about as funny as your soup line comment.

Whether the Republicans believe it or not, this election was in many ways, was a referendum of the last 8 years of Republican control of the government.

Did some vote for Obama just because of his skin color? Absolutely. Yes, that is stupid, but then some would have voted for any candidate running against him as long as they were white, and that is just as stupid.

Obama kept cool throughout the campaign. He managed to stay on message, while his opponent changed messages by the week and sometimes by the day.

Obama came across as a calm, cool, intelligent and stable man, while McCain came across as an angry, and often times confused, old man who had trouble staying focused.

I still maintain that Palin cost McCain the election. While the hard core base loved her, her ignorance was evident to the rest of the country. As someone commented to me, she seems as dumb as dirt. And with her simplistic view of the world and the government, she was such an easy target for the press. More and more is coming out about her shortcomings now that it's over. Apparently she thought Africa was a nation and didn't realize it's a continent. This is just one small example of her lack of knowledge, and most 4th grade students know better than that.

For one or two days, even Fixed news was beating Palin up too. Evidently Roger Ailes didn't like that, because Greta V is now going to interview Palin. Watch for some hard hitting questions from Greta. (that was a joke)

Old bulging veins Bill O'Reilly was visibly upset with Carl Cameron for discussing Palin's ignorance the other night, so I'll bet old Campaign Carl will be in the doghouse for a while. Carl broke the Republican eleventh commandment, he spoke ill of another Republican, and that's a no no at Fixed news. "

For the clueless here is the timeline on the creation of the subprime mess (this can all be checked out on reputable internet sites).
1. The Community Reinvestment Act was passed in 1977 during the Carter Admin. It remained rather benign until the Clinton Admin in 1995 added some banking regulations requiring banks to do more lending of "bad credit mortgages". Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac then got in on it issueing bonds backed by these bad loans now called subprime loans.
2. In 1999 the Clinton Admin done away with regulations and oversite of the financial system. (Sorry Pelosi, it was Clinton not Bush)
3. In 2003, the Bush Admin tried to pass oversite legislation of Fannie and Freddie, but the Dems killed it.
4. In 2005 and 2006 4 Repub Senators issued S.B.190 for oversite of Fannie and Freddie. It was killed by the Dems in committee.
Now you know. "

AT LAST!!! I think you've done enough wondering for today; you've wandered all over the political landscape trying to justify voting for McCain. "

My answer to that is the following: Consider Lincoln, the president before him and the one after him. Of the 3, the previous and following both had MUCH MORE political experience but Lincoln, but the next time you're in DC, walk to the west end of the Mall and see who has the magnificent monument ... and reconsider your attitude re "experience" "

She, like so many of the Obama critics, didn't really seem to be all that keen on McCain and actually appeared to be merely voting against Obama. It also appears that most of the Obama fear and hatred is based on unproven allegations, Internet rumors and yes, bigotry. "

End of story. So, why am I being called a racist? If a black person opted not to vote to McCain, does that make him or her a racist? I'm so sick of this crap I could vomit. Give the race issue a rest already. "

on the other hand, i'm sure there is a small percentage who voted for mccain or barr or someone else because of race. "

NOW....how in the world would we know.
THEY lie to us, in my opinion, steal from us and treat us like we just aren't quit good enough. This is after they get in. Look at Nixon (republican). Look at Clinton (democrat). They know how to nothing but bash each other and lie to us, so how in the world is a person to know who to vote for? Unless they consider thier party to be a religion?
I THINK if Obama is given a chance (which I doubt) he will do his level best to do what is best for this country.
We can do nothing except pray and wish him well. God will do the rest. That is He is allowed to do so... "

True, so very true. That is why now is the time to start a grass roots movement to change election/champaign laws to get more parties in the election process. I think it was cd who posted about this on another blog but I also think it's what we really need. Both the Dems and Reps have been in power too long and neither party listens to us once the elections are over. There are several other parties out there with good ideas and weird ideas but they should be able to run for office just as easily as a dem or rep. "

they can, and they do. they just don't get the numbers and in turn donations or publicity.

the election laws are very clear and specific about being open to all. YOU can run in 2012.....just put a campaign team together and get going! "

" The other parties are there, but they are virtually ignored by the MSM, nor are they invited to the major debates. I think in 2000 or 2004, I did see three of the "other" parties have their candidates debate on CSPAN. It was pretty much ignored by everyone else. The only attention they get are in reference to which major candidate they will "steal" votes from. "

" geeeezzzzzzzz.......

Please let this writing serve as an official request. In light of the recent election results, Cezar Capone Productions would like to make you a formal offer of $2,000,000 to star in an adult "MILF" production.

I am sure you are unaware that Cezar Capone is the KING of all "MILF" films. This one time offer also guarantees that you can walk away from our beautiful set with a newer and sexier wardrobe to make up for the $150,000 worth of clothes you had to give back to the GOP.

Oh, you can be quite sure that if Cezar Capone Productions is within sight of any Alaska landmarks, that Palin is well informed of his claim to MILF royalty. The real question is, why would Sarah Palin even consider such a crazy proposition?

You may be asking yourself why you should even consider such a crazy proposition?

The answer is simple; this film will be shot in high definition, and be a glossy, adult production starring a beautiful mother recognized by all of America as well as the rest of the world -the most desirable woman over 40! The film will be distributed internationally on DVD, as well as the website will reside on palinsupermilf.com

And this part might just be the dealmaker:

We have taken into consideration that there may be some hesitation to star in an adult production with male talent other than your husband so we are also prepared to kick in an extra $100,000.00 for your husband Todd to star in the movie with you, along with a brand new Arctic Cat snowmobile for him to sweeten the deal. "

Next piece of insanity please!

What some people won't do, to try & get a piece of the action.

8 years ago Bush won by selling "family values" and cheating in Florida. Now that we're watching they can't cheat. And I don't think anyone wants the family values of Republicans Mark Foley, Ted Stephans, and Larry Craig anywhere near their family. "

It isn't that it is poor taste its that he needs to help the country unite and work as one whereas instead McCain is proving how he only cares about himself, same thing with the public opinion thing, John McCain wouldn't have cared about how we felt about the countries direction, Obama will listen to us, it is actually nice to be American again, i think the positive atmosphere alone will do wonders for the country, i'm concerned about the hate factor though, too many people will hate Obama instead of backing him which is a downfall to society "

There are sixty minutes in an hour and twenty-four hours in a day, so that makes 1,440 minutes per day. (Thats in case you want to count them down a chunk at a time.) The countdown ends on Jan 20, 2009, at Noon EST, when President-Elect Barack Obama will become the 44th President of the United States. "
