2008 Farm Bill program Nov. 18 in Shelbyville



SHELBYVILLE — The University of Illinois Extension Shelby County Unit and Shelby County Farm Bureau will host an informational program on the 2008 Farm Bill Nov. 18 at 6:30 p.m. at the Lions Club Building in Shelbyville.

The program will begin with a catered dinner at 6:30 p.m., reservations are requested for an accurate meal count. The program will include Roger West, Shelby County Farm Service Agency Executive Director; Mark Colonius, Shelby County Farm Service Agency Farm Loan Manager and Doug Yoder, Illinois Farm Bureau Senior Director of Marketing and Affiliate Management.

West will discuss the Farm Bill implementation and procedures for Shelby County. Colonius will share information on new programs in the Farm Bill pertaining to young and new farmers.

Yoder’s presentation will highlight: ACRE (new revenue based counter-cyclical option); coverage, costs, eligibility, factors to consider before deciding, 10 acre rule-temporary suspension of rule, SURE (new permanent disaster provision); design, eligibility requirements, and brief description of other disaster programs included, New payment limits, new payment eligibility adjusted gross income thresholds, potential need for producers to review and possibly changing farm structure, changes to crop insurance, direct payments, counter-cyclical payments, marketing loan program, LDP changes.

The Farm Bill Program will be held at the Shelbyville Lions Club in Forest Park. The cost of the program is $10 payable at the door. Reservations are recommended.
