Shelbyville teen killed in weekend accident

SHELBYVILLE — A teenager died in a traffic accident Saturday morning along Illinois Route 16 between Tower Hill and Shelbyville, according to information released during the weekend by Illinois State Police District 10 officials in Pesotum.

Jordan A. Fox, 17, of Shelbyville was pronounced dead at the scene before 6:30 a.m. Saturday after a collision involving his Jeep Grand Cherokee and a pickup truck driven by Gabriel W. Thomas, 28, of Cowden. Thomas was injured and taken to Shelby Memorial Hospital in Shelbyville, and two of his passengers, Heston S. Wehrle of Cowden and Brett F. Parsons of Shelbyville, were also treated there as well.

No information on Thomas’s condition was available from Shelby Memorial on Sunday because a hospital employee said that facility does not release any information on patients and refuses to confirm whether they are transferred to another medical facility.

State police said the accident occurred when Fox’s vehicle crossed the center line into the path of the pickup truck east of Shelby County Road 1350E. The cause of the accident is under investigation.

The impact was head-on and Fox was not wearing a seat belt. State police stated Fox had continued east on Route 16 after being involved in a crash near Tower Hill.
