German visitors get a taste of American life in Illinois

STRASBURG — Fifteen students and three teachers from the state of Thuringia, Germany, got a sampling recently of what products and services Illinois has to offer.

As guests of Stewardson-Strasburg High School, the Germans were first taken to Effingham on Oct. 8 to see Mid America Motorworks, Wal-Mart Super Center, and Legacy Harley Davidson.

On Oct. 11, it was off to learn about Lincoln. The German guests visited the Lincoln Tomb, the Lincoln Presidential Museum and Lincoln’s Home.

On Columbus Day, the Germans had a chance to relax and enjoy the Illinois fall weather and scenery at Wolf Creek Riding Stables. There, they were able to sit by a campfire and take turns riding horseback through the woods at Wolf Creek.

The Germans also visited the Amish Interpretive Center, Lake Land College, a pumpkin patch, and the Eastern Illinois University parade.
