LETTER: Schniers exhibits qualities needed in a coroner

I’m writing to support Ed Schniers in his candidacy for Coles County coroner. Without hesitation, I believe Ed is the person who exhibits the qualities necessary to successfully serve as coroner of our county.

If ever faced with the situation in which a coroner is needed, I would want Ed to be the one to respond. Ed is a person of character. He has compassion and empathy toward others.

He is respectful, professional, and strongly committed to serving those who are in need. He is experienced in dealing with families during times of grief and the unexpected loss of a loved one. Ed has the upmost integrity and handles situations with sensitivity.

I’m confident in attesting to Ed’s ability because I’ve known him since I was young. I met Ed and his wife, Rosie, when I was in high school and he was the director of Campus Life.

As director, Ed was responsible for leading a youth group each week and instilling Christian values in young people’s lives. He was committed to helping kids make healthy lifestyle choices. The youth group was widely attended and successful as a result of Ed’s leadership.

Ed has the ability to connect with people; he truly cares about others; and he has the interpersonal skills necessary to handle the tough situations that come along with being a coroner. I fully encourage you to support Ed Schniers and am confident that he will serve this community well as Coles County coroner.

" Again, nothing about actual qualifications or experience, just more blather about his people skills and personality.

We're not looking to replace Mother Theresa, here folks.

Seriously, what does leading a youth group or instilling Christian values have to do with this race? Is Schniers planning on turning the office into a 4 year long revival? Good grief!

These testimonial letters and posts from Ed's family and friends are rather off course and are really rather sad and pathetic.

When are we going to see anything from the Schniers camp about his actual experiences that are in any way relevant to the coroners duties?

Nichols education, qualifications and related work experience have been articulated by several letter writers and posters, but we're still waiting to hear about Ed's. It's pretty obvious why too.

These nice guy with such a great personality posts and letters are getting rather tiring. As the little old Wendy's lady, Clara, used to say: Where's the beef? "
