LETTER: What does Obama birth certificate say?

If Obama wants to win the election then he needs to produce his real birth certificate.

If he was born in the United States what does he have to hide? Why did he suddenly have to suspend his campaign for two days and go to Hawaii and then immediately the governor of Hawaii freezes his records? Won’t release college records, won’t release birth documents, won’t release any Kenyan documents. Is this really the change we want?

The fact that he is hiding all these things proves that he has a lot more he is hiding. Do we want to find out after he is elected that he is ineligible according to the Constitution?

" Similarly we should require Sidney McCain to produce his birth certificate.
It appears that he was born in the Canal Zone of Panama. The Canal Zone has NEVER BELONGED TO THE UNITED STATES. There was only a treaty between Panama and the US giving the US permission to build a canal and to operate it. On July 28, 1904, Controller of the Treasury Robert Tracewell stated, "While the general spirit and purpose of the Constitution is applicable to the zone, that domain is not a part of the United States within the full meaning of the Constitution and laws of the country." So it is Sidney McCain who is NOT A "NATIVE BORN" citizen.
But thanks to Vanatta for showing us how desperate the McCain campaign is..... "

You can see a copy there. Stop living in the Middle Ages, when anything could be "true," and accept that we're living in a world in which truth is a matter of facts, not ideologically-driven conspiracy theories.

And where's your birth certificate? How do we know that you were born in the U.S. and can vote? "

" To sort of boil it down, Senator O'bama posted his birth certificate on a web site... http://fightthesmears.com/articles/5/birthcertificate

By law (The Immigration and Nationality Act, Title III, SEC. 305. [8 U.S.C. 1405]), anyone born in Hawaii after April 30, 1900 is a citizen by birth regardless of the citizenship of his / her parents. Reference to follow below.

Senator McCain was born in Panama, but on a US military base, so he is a citizen by birth regardless of whether or not the Canal Zone is a US property, based on the same law mentioned above for Senator O'Bama.

It seems to me that this is a non-issue - it applies equally to both candidates and there's no honest-to-goodness evidence - just e-rumor - that either is disqualified based on birthplace or parentage. Neither parent has to be citizen for the newborn individual to be a citizen if the birth took place in the US, as defined by statute not as limited by the 50 states. "

And, just for the record, children born on foreign soil to parents with citizenship in the United States are still considered native born. And if one parent is American, and the other a foreign national, they are graced with dual citizenship until the day that they are mature enough to select their citizenship of choice (at least in a great many countries of the world.) They don't have to pop out onto actual home soil to belong here. They are Americans, born and bred. "

My qualifications for voting have nothing to do with this question. It was the same thing with Joe Wurzelbacher his question was never answered but his character was immediately attacked. Vicky Tucker and God is you attacked my Christianity instead of the question I raised. I actually raised more than just about his birth certificate but the whole list of things that Obama refuses to reveal. This man has too much he is hiding and feels that he has an elitists right to just ignore the questions of us common folks like Joe and I. Do you think this attitude is going to change after he is president? The certificate that has been presented is a poor attempt of being an official document. There is an official document somewhere. All Obama has to do is release it and end this controversy forever because if it comes to light after he is elected I do not like who follows in line after him any better. We need change in Washington but not the type of change represented by Obamas ticket. If Obama is elected very likely Jeremiah Wrights statement will come true about the chickens coming home to roost. We are in for some changes than we are not going to like. And not, say, Anton Vatja?

These questions about whether Barack Obama has a valid birth certificate are designed only to stir up doubts about Obama as somehow exotic, foreign, not like "us," whoever we are. They are a 21st-century Internet-driven version of the fear of "furriners" that has dominated some of the uglier episodes in American history.

And of course, there's no proof that will satisfy those who insist on raising questions. No doubt you believe that the birth certificate reproduced online is a fake. However, I have been reading a lot of e-mails containing misinformation about Obama, and I see how this stuff has been proliferating on blog sites and elsewhere--when people circulate and perpetuate these things, it DOES discredit Christianity.

What justification can you provide for any Christian to spread untruth and innuendo about another person? And, how does passing on negative misinformation about another person--I believe that's called slander--in any way further the cause of Christ?

As I understand it, the birth certificate issue has been resolved. See the link below, along with the FactCheck info already mentioned:

http://mediamatters.org/items/200809180017

The sad thing is that these lies and rumors don't seem to die down; they seem simply to bubble up in a new form. There is something evil about that.

I do understand that this is all about fear--fear of what might happen if Obama becomes president. Anything can happen; look what happened while Bush was president. Disaster could happen under Obama or McCain. McCain strikes me as reckless, as someone who could take us into an unnecessary war. He is a gambler, a risk-taker. Sometimes taking the big risk pays off, but at other times you just might crash and burn.

You obviously don't understand this issue at all. Military bases like embassies are considered Amercian Soil. So if you're born on a military base in a foreign country you are a native born citizen. Paul Black wrote on Nov 2, 2008 9:11 PM:

" If the writer is concerned about the Constitution, then the issue must be settled by how that Constitution has been interpreted through the passage of laws.

The perception is that in order to be a U.S. citizen one must be born inside the United States. That is only one way in which someone is granted U.S. citizenship at birth and considered a natural born citizen. It is not the only way.

First, the law in 1933, Persons born abroad before May 24, 1934 to a US citizen father who had resided in the US at any point before the birth are considered US citizens at birth. The status of the mother did not matter unless the child was born out of wedlock. There were numerous legal challenges to this rule, claiming that it violates equal protection by treating the children born to US citizen women different than those born to US citizen men. The issue was never fully resolved by the courts, but in 1994, Congress passed a law retroactively granting citizenship at birth to children born abroad to US citizen women. That settles the issue for John McCain's citizenship.

Second, Obama was born August 4, 1961, after Hawaii was granted statehood -- almost two years after President Eisenhower declared Hawaii the 50th state on August 21, 1959. By virtue of statehood, all of its residents became U.S. citizens. In 1961, When one parent was a US citizen and the other a foreign national, the US citizen parent must have resided in the US for a total of 10 years prior to the birth of the child, with five of the years after the age of 14. However, when statehood is involved, this portion of the law is waived, because it would violate the Equal Protection clause of the 14th Amendment. The 10-year requirement is waived. So, Obama has a U.S. citizen for a mother and a father who is a citizen of Kenya. That settles the issue: Obama is a U.S. natural born citizen, having been born in a U.S. state.

It amazes me how many will pass along such mis-information without checking it out. A visit to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service could have provided the answer. That is, if persons are really interested in the truth and not just a political agenda. "

" The only bright spot, except for the fact that Obama is going to beat McSame like a Vietnamese prison guard........

-----------------

I heard that McCain made over 32 propaganda films for the North Vietnamese communists, just to keep from being beaten. We have never heard much about that from the supposedly left leaning main stream media, have we?

People need to educate themselves about McCain's involvement in our granting of favored nation treatment to the Vietnamese government. It ain't very pretty. "

" HP I have seen a lot of stupid comments on this site, too. A lot of them were written by you so I guess you got to see them before the rest of us. The question is how do you know snopes is reliable? Have you ever done any checking on them? Snopes is not the only place is it to confirm or deny rumors. I am sure you and the question have plenty of time on your hands since this seems to be the only thing you do. "

" TO LIE OR NOT TO LIE, THAT IS THE QUESTION. When step in voting booth a good prayer and hope best man win.
God has sort this mess out. I prefer to believe in GOD because man sure messed things up. Prayer for our president should be daily. Non believers can just sit and not worry about a thing. "

" This is quite frightening...do you recall what the Communists said to us many years ago? Here is a quote that should wake up the liberals who seem to have no fear or caution in the election...

"We cannot expect the Americans to jump from capitalism to Communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving Americans small doses of socialism until they suddenly awake to find they have Communism."

~ Soviet Leader Nikita Khrushchev, 1959

" Republicans may have lost the battle of 2008, but they won the war.
The election of Mr. Obama proves that anyone can live the American dream. A biracial product of a dysfunctional family overcame obstacles to finish high school, graduate from college, graduate from law school, become a professional, marry another professional, raise a family, hold a state office, become elected to the United States Senate, and now become the next President of the United States.
I doubt if his supporters understand the law of unintended consequences.
Minorities can no longer use their skin color to explain personal shortcomings such as unemployment, failure to pay child support, failure to obey the social contract, or criminal activity.
Abraham Lincoln would be happy to see the final product of the Civil War. " "

As an Obama supporter, let me say that, despite your smug and condescending assertions, most of us are not the naive people you seem to think we are. And I have to wonder if realize how racist you come across with your above comments about the responsibilities of those of color? No whitedove, people of all races have been known to abdicate their responsibilities, not just minorities as you seem to infer. "

Put up or shut up, in other words. "
