Heller asks to lend him an ear at Community Leaders Breakfast

MATTOON — The morning after the election is not too soon to be thinking about leadership.

On Wednesday morning, business consultant Dick Heller will look at the results of Tuesday’s election whether you are glowing or teary eyed over the results.

Heller is the speaker for Wednesday’s Community Leaders Breakfast at Lake Land College, which starts at 7 a.m., just 12 hours after the polls close in Illinois and, hopefully, several hours after final results are confirmed in elections across the country.

Tickets remain for the event. Call 238-6824. The breakfast will also include presentations on local participation in the Pacific Institute Investment in Excellence sessions and a workshop with the East Central Illinois Development Corporation.

“In visiting with Dick Heller, I found he’s someone with a noteworthy professional background in a range of areas from theater to management consulting. I look forward to hearing his message, including approaches to leadership and managing risk in a changing environment. That seems like a good topic for the day after an election in which no matter who wins, the message will be about new directions,” said Carl Walworth, publisher of the Mattoon Journal Gazette and Charleston Times-Courier.

Heller, a former director in television and theater in the Boston area, advocates optimization, which means finding the energy and direction to reach for and realize the greatest achievable results. He compares people reaching their full capabilities like an athlete or dancer hitting full extension.

Heller has written a book, called “Full Extension: The Presence of a Leader,” that outlines the concepts and actions of great leadership for this century.

Heller is a scuba diver, art historian, crossword constructor and photographer. His television work include positions with PBS station WGBH-TV of Boston. He is now an independent speaker and consultant and his client list includes AT&T, Verizon, Nielsen Media Research, Microsoft and Procter and Gamble.

Community Leaders Breakfast is sponsored by Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Systems, Consolidated Communications, First Mid-Illinois Bank and Trust, West and Co., and the Journal Gazette/Times-Courier.
