The five-foot-five setter helped the Lady Titans to an undefeated Little Okaw Valley Conference title with wins over Lovington (25-7, 25-11) and Sangamon Valley (24-26, 25-16, 25-22). Blair had 42 assists (8.5 per game), 17 digs (3.4 per game), 5 kills (one per game), and 2 aces during the week. Tri-County’s win over Lovington was coach Sarah Ritchey’s 100th in her four years at the helm. It is the fifth straight season that Tri-County has won or shared the regular season title. The Lady Titans also won the LOVC tournament and have won 19 straight matches, 14 in two sets.
Ryan Brown, Senior
SHELBYVILLE-STEWARDSON-STRASBURG CROSS COUNTRY
Brown became the first person from Shelbyville to win the individual title at the IHSA Class 1A Regional Saturday since 2000 when Lucas Kramer won the Cowden-Herrick Regional with a time of 15 minutes, 12 seconds. Brown ran the race in 16:16, five seconds faster than he did in early October at the Robinson Invitational. Brown won by 20.3 seconds over the second place runner Brady Harp of Robinson. Brown’s first place finish also helped the Rams, coached by Kevin Kramer, win the regional title, its second in the past three years. Shelbyville won by four points over Robinson wit 60 points.
Chase Louthan, Senior
MATTOON FOOTBALL
The six-foot-one, 163 pound wide receiver/defensive back helped Mattoon end the season on a winning note as the Green Wave nipped Decatur Eisenhower 27-20 Friday in a Big 12 Conference contest. Louthan got the scoring starting, catching a 12-yard pass from Michael Heller in the opening quarter as Mattoon, coached by Nat Zunkel, led 7-0. Louthan, who had three interceptions for the game out of five by Mattoon against the Panthers, who ran the A-11 offense, scored the winning touchdown by catching an overthrown pass by the Eisenhower quarterback and racing 72 yards into the end zone with 58 seconds left. The win also extended Eisenhower’s losing streak to 19 games as the Panthers finished 0-9. Louthan finished as Mattoon’s leading receiver this year with 17 catches for 115 yards and two touchdowns. He tied with Cody Ashworth for the lead in interceptions on the season with three. The five interceptions by the team puts them in a 6-way tie for 43rd place in the state for most interceptions in a game.
Meagan Ramsay, Senior
CASEY-WESTFIELD TENNIS
The Olivet Nazarene University bound player had a goal of wining two matches at the state tournament last weekend and she accomplished that feat. Ramsay lost to Bloomington’s Tara Clemens (6-2, 6-2) before defeating Danielle Dixon of Homewood-Flossmoor 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 and Edwardsville’s Tes Severin 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. She was eliminated with a loss to Lopckport’s Haley Iicweicz 6-1, 6-3 in the third round of the consolation bracket. Ramsay closed her four-year career (No.1 singles player at Casey all four years) making it to state all four years and finishing with a 76-34 (.691) record. Winning two matches at the state tournament was her best finish.
Mitch Snyder, Senior
CASEY-WESTFIELD FOOTBALL
The school’s all-time passing leader finished off a perfect regular season and Little Illini Conference season by completing 15-of-20 passes for 246 yards and four touchdowns in a 43-6 victory over Lawrenceville. Snyder first connected with Taylor Biggs on a 30-yard touchdown strike in the opening quarter for a 9-0 lead. He threw the remaining three touchdown passes in the 21-point second quarter as the Warrior took a 30-0 lead at the half.
