Sports memorabilia among items at tonight's United Way Auction



MATTOON — A bat, program and two rookie cards signed by Mattoon native Kyle Hudson, a member of the Baltimore Orioles baseball organization, and Tony Romo EIU No. 17 T-shirts are two highlights of the 2008 United Way Auction and Fall Celebration to be held today at the Mattoon Country Club.

The auction and celebration is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Items for auction have been donated by area merchants. A sample of items include a gas grill from Coles-Moultrie Electric, an 8-piece power tool set from US Bank, a basketball signed by Lou Henson and Bruce Weber from Greg and Karen Petersen, a GPS navigator from Willaredt Storage, a catered 6-course meal courtesy of 2 Flowers Caterers, dinner and drinks for two once a month for 12 months at the Alamo Steakhouse & Saloon and Lincoln-Douglas debate basket courtesy of the Charleston Tourism Department.

Also up for auction are a variety of baskets and gift certificates for meals and more.

The 2008 United Way Auction and Fall Celebration benefits United Way of Coles County and the 31 local non-profits it serves. Tickets are $10 each and may be purchased at the door.
