LETTER: Schniers is able to deal with people's concerns

Ed Schniers is the ideal candidate for Coles County Coroner.

I first worked with Ed in Coles County Retired Senior Volunteer Program when he was a very young, energetic and caring individual. He still carries these characteristics.

We then worked together in Coles County Youth for Christ “Campus Life” for over 13 years. He was the director and I was on the board. Ed acquired a lovely help mate, Rosie, during this time and together they served the youth of Coles County. Their home was always open to anyone needing someone to talk to.

Over the last 14 years Ed has spent his time working at Schilling Funeral Home and now Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, with compassion and spirituality. He knows how to deal with the needs of people during traumatic times. Also, because of working in these funeral homes he knows the “ins and outs” of these trying times.

Cast your vote for Ed, he will always be there if you need him.

" Yes, by all means let's vote for personality over experience. Not everyone sees Mr Schniers as Mary Poppins. "

" EB: Mr Schniers, has been a nursing home administrator, program director and through the funeral profession the last 14 years has worked with more families than Mr. Nichols. He has more than enough experience and mangement skills to serve the office of the coroner and is the only canidate who knows how to treat people with compassion, confidentiality and professionalism. Anyone can attain the minimal technical certifications once elected and have six monthes from the date elected to do so. I'm not slamming him, but Mr. Nichols worked in the accounting department for cips before being elected coroner. That had nothing to do with the office of the coroner. So please next time you make a statement try to make it have some substance "

" Mr. Nichols has done the job fine so thats qualified for me, The question is has anyone other than you Robin had anything good to say thus far? No because they know the true personality of Ed Scniers "

" CORONER RULES SHELBY COUNTY BOYS'S DEATH AN ACCIDENT JULY 26, 2007

We have an update to last week's tragic death of a 10-year-old Shelby County boy.
Last Friday, Coles County Coroner Michael Nichols told Newscenter 17 it appeared the boy died as a result of playing 'the choking game"

On Thursday, Nichols told Newscenter 17 that an investigation by the Shelby County Sheriff, and the patholigist who performed the autopsy found no evidence that the choking game caused the boy's death.
As a result, Nichols says the child's death has been ruled accidental by asphyxiation.
The Coles County Coroner and Newscenter 17 regret an undue pain this may have cause the boy's family and friends.
That was a news release, No opinion just the facts. Nichols has no compassion. And all of these great hours he logs apparently do not help him at all. He went on the tv news and stated information before he had results from the medical examiner and used this child's death as a publicity stunt to get his name out and look important. THIS IS WRONG. NICHOLS IS WRONG. How could anyone support him? He did all of this before the family could even bury their son. "

" Did you say something about low profile Robin? Is pasting a story on the opinions page, Mr. Schniers's idea of low profile and all that jazz you talk? give yourself a pat on the back Robin lol "
