Panthers fall out of top 25 for first time since 2005
By Brian Nielsen, Sports Editor bnielsen@jg-tc.com
CHARLESTON -- Eastern Illinois’ run of 36 straight weeks in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision’s top 25 has come to an end Monday.
The Panthers fell out of the FCS Coaches poll following a bye week.
EIU had been ranked in one of the two major FCS polls since the second to last week of the 2005 season when they entered the poll following a win over Jacksonville State.
Following their Sept. 27 loss to JSU, Eastern Illinois fell out of the Sports Network Top 25 rankings but landed at No. 25 in the FCS Coaches rankings. That ranking was short lived as a week of top 25 upsets dropped EIU to the list of others receiving votes in both major polls. EIU is the second team receiving votes for 27th in the Coaches poll while they the fifth team (30th) in the TSN rankings.
Jacksonville State is now 19th in the Sports Network poll while Tennessee State represents the OVC in the Coaches poll moving into 24th.
James Madison remains No. 1 in both polls.
