LETTER: Freedom of speech and thoughts, oh my!

Mr. William Addison (letter Aug. 1) your letter was printed on your views, so why not Jack Pierce’s letter? His views? Your views are better? Mr. Pierce was just giving you Obama voters something to think about.

Talk about racist. Why can’t we call people just good ole Americans? They put the “R” in racism – Black American, Hispanic American, Latino American, African American, on and on. And what about the language? Speak your new language- English! Because you’re a “modern racist” makes your views and thinking right?

I am 55 and I will not ever forget the way the kids who lived on 10th St. on up treated me the first day the school bus picked me up in Grant Park.

Do you think Obama is really going to forget what his people and ancestors went through? History can be made in many other ways. What will we call the White House if he gets in? Are we going to have to change that so we don’t offend anyone?

Whites and whites think differently on many issues, does that make you clearly narrow minded?

This is too much, just heard on CNN, comedians can put down Mr. McCain all night, but not Obama! Answer? Because of his race! What’s wrong with that picture Mr. Addison?

So, who give a damn that Mr. McCain didn’t know how many homes he has? They were bought with clean honest money. What about that million-dollar home in Chicago, Mr. Addison, little shady? Right off the top of his head, do you think Obama knows how many family members he has (on both sides) pop question of course.

Kennedy served his country, so did Mr. McCain. Obama didn’t even wear the flag pin until someone brought it to his attention.

He’s just not ready to run this country. He didn’t serve it, so how do you really expect him to run it?

As for me, I will vote for the old wise one, who was in uniform and served our country and who does have more knowledge.

Mr. Addison, call me whatever. I’ve been called a lot worse by a lot bigger, brighter and better People than you, the “Modern Racist.”

" It would be an amazing feat if everyone could stick to the true issues at hand, promote their own candidates based on their experience(s), & stopped playing along with the left & right smear machines, seeing who can make the other look worse.

My bet is that alot of folks will end up just passing on voting, or quickly vote uninformed, because they really know nothing about either candidate, because the supporters for each are too worried about bashing the other, instead of truely supporting their own.

The smear machines are running rampid, & it's a damn shame, & each candidate will end up paying the price for it.

Build your own candidate up, instead of tearing the other down! "

An excellent summary, Hahvahd. "

He can't do any worse than someone who served in the Texas Air National Guard.

Seems to me Jefferson, Adams, Wilson, Roosevelt and Clinton did pretty good.

By the way, Carter was ACTIVE DUTY (not the reserves like Bush, Bush, Reagan, and Ford.) Does that make him a better leader?

I'm sorry, but waving the flag, chanting USA, and being POW does not make you a great leader. I'd have liked to heard something positive about the issues from one side by now. But as someone said, it's not about the issues for the vast majority of the idiots in America -- it's all about the person.

Britanny Spears for President. "

Translation for non-democrats.....

If you don't vote for Obama, you are a racist and personally responsible for slavery and discrimination. "

" Paula, you might have been called worse by someone bigger, but brighter or better, no way. William Addison fully earned those 3 little letters (PhD) that he so modestly did not include with his name. In some cases, one opinion is better than another; when opinion is backed with reasoning and research it holds more value than when it is expressed with biased ignorance. It seems you have had a little trouble interpreting the content as well as the intent of Dr. Addison's letter. "

Locke wrote on Sep 9, 2008 8:34 AM:

" Paula: To have a debate, one must first listen to what someone says before they respond. You have not done this, and therefore, are not really contributing anything.

Jack's letter stated this:

1). Obama is black
2). Black leaders in Africa do bad things
3). Since Obama is black, he will do bad things as our leader

Problem is, the only similarity between Obama and African leaders is the color of their skin. They were shaped by two totally difference social experiences. You even note this when you said Obama will not forget what his ancestors went through.

If you think Obama will be a bad leader simply because he is biologically predisposed to be a bad leader, that is in fact racist.

You sort of forgot three-fifths of what Jack's letter was about. You didn't read his letter. You didn't comprehend his letter.

Criticizing Obama because he didn't serve, supposedly didn't wear a flag pin until such said time, because he got his home through proported shadey means, etc., is fine -- that's not racist. Making sweeping, broad statements that all black people are bad leaders because some people who look like them half-way around the world are bad leaders only by merit of the way the look is, well, racist. "

I would say you have a radical left wing socialist who is going to tax and spend this country in oblivion, greatly expand the size of government, and ruin the best health care system in the world. "

Explorer wrote on Sep 9, 2008 12:42 PM:

Harry Potter wrote on Sep 9, 2008 5:11 PM:

" I'm not a big advocate of nationalized health care, but I have noticed that the Canadian citizens seem to be happy with their system, according to the polls I have read, and the biggest critics seem to the people that obviously have little knowledge of it, like sapient, who seem to be shooting from the hip and can only come up with anecdotal reasons to criticize it.

I would think the Canadians who live with a system would have more credibility than some one like sapient, when it comes to evaluating the pros and cons of the Canadian system. "

Harry Potter wrote on Sep 9, 2008 7:18 PM:

" I wonder what Paula thought of Bush's holding the American flag upside down at the Olympics and the picture floating around the Net showing him with his hand on his stomach during the National Anthem?
