New dentist begins practice in Mattoon



MATTOON — Cheryl A. Beckmann, D.M.D., has begun her practice of general family dentistry in association with Philip B. Kepp, D.D.S. and Jennifer A. Kennedy, D.D.S. at 601 Broadway Ave.

Raised in Highland, Dr. Beckmann received a bachelor of science degree in biologic sciences from SIU and a bachelor of science degree from Illinois College in economics and business administration, according to a press release. She graduated from SIU College of Dentistry with a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree. She most recently practiced general dentistry with the Rural Health Planning Corporation in Christopher.

According to Dr. Kepp, Dr. Beckmann will be engaged in all phases of general family dentistry including oral surgery, cosmetic dentistry, pediatric dentistry, restorative dentistry, dentures, and preventive care. She will also assume an active role in the sports dentistry program of the practice. She will be participating in and is scheduled for fall clinics in the Women and Children First Dental Program. In the past, she has participated in the annual Give Kids A Smile campaign and dental mission trips to Jamaica.

Dr. Beckmann lives in Mattoon and said she looks forward to becoming active within the community. Her practice will by appointment only at 601 Broadway Ave.

Appointments may be made Monday through Friday by calling 235-0556.

I found it interesting that her practice will include "oral surgery". I thought that was typically reserved for a MD and not a DMD. Perhaps it is just mix of words. "
