Concert in the Parks will wrap up on an American roots and blues note

CHARLESTON – Three-part harmonies on American roots and blues music will be heard Thursday evening in the conclusion of the Concerts in the Parks series.

Husband-and-wife duo Joe and Lindsay McLean, with special guest Brad Myers, are scheduled to perform at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Kiwanis Park amphitheater. Entry to this acoustic show is free.

Lindsay McLean, whose maiden name is Meacham, said the Concert in the Park will be the first time she and her husband have taken the stage together in her hometown.

They have been performing at bluegrass festivals in Colorado and the Midwest as well as with their The Nameless band in Arizona, she said. The two have been dividing their time between working at her family’s Red Rock Tile Works in Charleston and a related business in Arizona.

“We are going to be here for a long time, so we are anxious to get our feet wet and get into the music scene here,” Joe McLean said.

Lindsay McLean estimated her husband has almost 20 years of professional experience performing.

She said it has been fun for her to take part in the music that has been so important to her husband for such a long time.

“It’s been a joy. It’s just one more aspect to our relationship. I consider it a real blessing,” Joe McLean said.

Joe McLean’s performing experience includes performing alongside Myers in the Cincinnati-based jazz fusion band Ray’s Music Exchange. He said it has been a few years since they last took the stage together, but “Every time we play together it’s like no time has passed.”

Thursday’s set list may include music from The Band, Steve Earle, Emmylou Harris, Elvis Costello, Crosby, Stills & Nash, and other artists.

Joe McLean said the laidback show will highlight the three-part harmonies that Myers’ can help complete.

“Once you put that third voice in there, it’s definitely a whole different instrument,” Joe McLean said.

Concert-goers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets to the event.

The concert series is sponsored by the Charleston Parks and Recreation Department, AmerenCIPS, Consolidated Communications, and WMCI radio.
