Ashmore Days festival a time for reunions
By DAVE FOPAY, Staff Writer dfopay@jg-tc.com
ASHMORE — Reunions aren’t just for schools, but that will be a connection for the reunion that will be part of this weekend’s Ashmore Days festival.
The theme of the festival this year is “Reunion Time — Come One & All” in conjunction with an all-school reunion booth that will be in place during the festival Saturday.
Festival organizer Debbie Dunning said some former students of the old high school in the village as well as its current grade school were interested in having the booth, so it was decided to tie the theme with that.
The booth will be in place in the village’s North Park on Saturday afternoon for people who attended the schools to gather and to bring memorabilia such as yearbooks, textbooks and pictures, Dunning said.
The festival’s parade will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday and the line up will begin at 8 a.m. at the village’s South Park. The parade’s grand marshals will be Max and Mary Cooper. Dunning said the Coopers have supported and been part of Ashmore Days since its inception.
“As a couple, they’ve been very dedicated to the community,” she said.
Dunning also said she’s expecting a large parade because there have been several advance entries. Anyone wanting information about parade can call Dunning at 349-8471.
The festival will begin on Friday with the Little Queen/King and Miss/Mister pageants, sponsored by the village Lions Club, at 7 p.m. in North Park. Karaoke will follow the pageants and last until 9:30 p.m. People wanting more information on the pageants can call 349-8474 or 349-8902.
Most activities will take place Saturday, but the festival will conclude on Sunday with a community church service at 10 a.m., also in North Park.
The schedule for Saturday’s activities in North Park includes:
-6:30-10 a.m., Masonic Lodge pancake and sausage breakfast.
