Mattoon's Peyton Gill takes Little Miss crown

CHARLESTON — Peyton Gill was crowned the winner of the 2008 Little Miss Coles County pageant Sunday at the Coles County Fair.
The 5-year-old Mattoon girl is the daughter of Kyle and Michelle Gill and won the pageant out of 10 contestants at the first grandstand event for the fair, which opened Sunday.
As the winner, Peyton received several prizes, including a bicycle from the Charleston Wal-Mart, a crown and other jewelry from Shores Jewelry in Mattoon, six box seats to other fair grandstand events, a sash and flowers from the Coles County Fair Association, car magnets from Rufener Photography, a diamond-shaped crown from pageant directors Lynn and Katie Rufener and a gift bag from WEIU-TV.
Each contestant received a gift bag, a crown and a rose as well as dance lessons from Margene’s Dance Studio.
The contestants started out the pageant by dancing to “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend” while dressed in pink T-shirts and denim shorts. They returned later in dresses and crowns, waving and walking down a runway and then answering questions about what they like best about the fair.
The pageant’s other contestants were:
n Lilly Ashby, 5, Charleston, daughter of Japeth and Jennifer Ashby.
n Haley Beals, 7, Mattoon, daughter of Gary and Amanda Beals.
n Aaliyah Enloe, 7, Mattoon, daughter of Paul and Larjunette Enloe.
n KayLee Fisher, 5, Charleston, daughter of Michael Fisher and April Lannon.
n MacKenzie Kirby, 5, Mattoon, daughter of Mark and Heather Kirby.
n Taylor McClain, 6, Oakland, daughter of Jason McClain and Crystal Meffort.
n Haleigh Miller, 7, Mattoon, daughter of Bruce and Shelly Miller.
n Hannah Schrock, 5, Mattoon, daughter of Darlene Moore and Tom Schrock.
n Elaina Short, 5, Lerna, the daughter of Greg and Nikki Short.
