Miss Coles County pageant Sunday

CHARLESTON — The 2008 Miss Coles County Fair Queen Pageant, “50 Years of Queens,” will be at 7 p.m. Sunday in front of the grandstand at the Coles County Fairgrounds in Charleston.

This year there are 11 young women competing for the title of Miss Coles County Fair Queen 2008, which includes a $1,500 scholarship for their education, as well as numerous other prizes donated by area businesses.

As part of the theme, the very first Miss Coles County is scheduled to attend.

The contestants have spent the past several weeks practicing under the direction of Marilyn Bacon and Megan Stewart, co-directors of the pageant. Each contestant will take part in a four-minute interview with a panel of three judges the afternoon prior to the competition.

During the pageant each contestant will present a one-minute speech she has prepared on a topic of her choosing. There is an evening gown and physical fitness portion to the pageant also.

Miss Coles County 2007 Marissa Alexander, daughter of Robert and Tylene Alexander of Mattoon, will crown the new queen at the conclusion of the pageant. She is in the nursing program at Millikin University in Decatur and employed at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.

Miss Congeniality, voted on by the contestants, will be named. Prizes are awarded for the first runner-up and second runner-up. All those participating will receive numerous gifts donated by area businesses.

The contestants are Rebekah Bixby of Charleston, Jesica Cutright of Mattoon, Cori Christenholz of Mattoon, Brittney Smith of Mattoon, Amanda Szatkowski of Neoga, Heather Eaton of Mattoon, Laurian Brankey of Charleston, Maybellean Rienbolt of Charleston, Ceitlyn Glenn of Charleston, Cassandra Curtis of Oakland and Lennea Kite of Oakland.
