Effingham EI League team sweeps Central

EFFINGHAM -- The Effingham Eastern Illinois baseball team swept two games from the Central Angels Sunday at Paul Smith Field, winning 7-5 and 4-1.
Effingham and Central were deadlocked at four after five innings and Effingham took its second lead of the game 5-4 only to have Central tie the game with run in the seventh. Effingham scored two runs in the eighth for the win.
Matt Hayes picked up the win and Charleston’s Kyle Wilson was 3-for-5 at the plate, while Josh Wilson was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Arcola’s Jamison Miller was 2-for-2 with two RBIs.
In the second game it was the fourth inning that was the difference for Effingham as they plated three runs in a 4-1 triumph.
Kyle Wilson, who has the lowest earned run average in the eight-team league at 1.41, improved to 4-2. He allowed one run with seven strikeouts in six innings and Josh Wilson picked up the save.
Josh Wilson was 2-for-3, while Andy McLeod was 2-for-3 with three runs batted in. McLeod is fifth in the league in batting with a .452 average, while Josh Wilson is 12th at .354.
Effingham is to travel to Paxton to face the 11-7 Swedes Sunday.
