SBL President's Award winners announced

MATTOON — Sarah Bush Lincoln Health System labor and delivery nurses Karen Farney, R.N., and Margarita Martin, R.N., were recently awarded SBL’s Annual President’s Award for their contributions.

Farney and Martin were selected for the exceptional compassion and care they showed a young mother and her family after she lost her child, according to a press release from Sarah Bush. They also offered their assistance to the staff of the health center’s Critical Care Unit, where the mother was sent following the delivery.

“They are two very compassionate and caring individuals. I know that’s what they do, but they do it very well,” said Joyce Cottingham, director of CCU, who nominated the two nurses for the highest award in the health system. “They made sure the mother received the same care in CCU that she would have received in Women & Children’s and they were very supportive to our staff members, who are not used to dealing with these situations.”

The President’s Award is part of an employee recognition program, which underscores the standards of excellence in the health system. Nominees should demonstrate exceptional customer service, or contribute above normal job expectations, that reflect SBLHS’s mission and values.

The annual recipient is selected from one of four quarterly winners chosen throughout the year and is announced at the annual Bravo! Dedication Banquet. Other quarterly President’s Award nominees were Annie Barber, Amy Carlen and Christina Linn.

Employees were also recognized for their years of service to the health center at the annual banquet along with retirees Linda Douthitt, Karen Huffmaster, Debra Maddox and Rita Righter.
