DECATUR — Future Business Leaders of America members and adviser Susan Weir from Martinsville High School attended the 59th Illinois Future Business Leaders of America State Leadership conference in Decatur April 11-12.

More than 950 members, advisers and guests from Illinois FBLA chapters were in attendance. The two-day state conference included activities in personal development, business and leadership training, election of 2008-2009 state officers, and competitive events.

During the awards program at the conference, Martinsville High School FBLA members won the following individual, team and chapter competitive events: Tiffany Elliott and Brant Elliott — third in business ethics; Megan Lowry and Danielle Loera — fourth in desktop publishing; Mary-Anne Wells — fourth in FBLA principles and procedures; Emily Scott — sixth in public speaking I; Heidi Dahnke — ninth in computer applications; Jaycee Hackney — 10th in public speaking II.

Other FBLA members in attendance were Jordan Galloway, Erin Lowry, Miranda Doran and Wade Woolen. Brenda Elliott also attended as a chaperone.

Brant Elliott and Tiffany Elliott will represent Illinois by competing at the National Leadership Conference in Atlanta from June 26-29.

The Martinsville chapter also received recognition for the following reports and contests: March of Dimes (Most Money Raised Per Capita); Promote FBLA Week, and Connecting Generations. Weir, who is retiring, received recognition for 22 years of service as an FBLA adviser.

Erin Lowry and Emily Scott also served as voting delegates at the conference in the election of the 2008-2009 Illinois state officers.
