Some Class A individuals to watch

Tyler Carter, Tuscola

The EIU recruit’s sectional standards – second statewide in the long jump and 110 high hurdles, fourth in the triple jump and seventh in the 300 intermediate hurdles – have him ready to score a bundle of points. He probably won’t run the 300 hurdles so he can focus on the 4x200 relay.

Parker Thompson, Tremont

The defending champion in the 1,600 and a former cross country champ, this year he’s just as likely to bring home the medal in the 800. He isn’t likely to see Princeton rival Colin Mickow, who edged him in the mile at the Illinois Prep Top Times meet in April. Mickow is reportedly no longer with the team for disciplinary reasons.

Quinn Walker, Hampshire

The only individual to finish with a faster sectional time in the 300 hurdles than Carlinville’s Greg Davis, he’s also strong in the 110 hurdles and is a member of a strong 4x100 relay.

Cody Doerflein, DuQuoin

The Southern Illinois signee finished second in the state pole vault as an eighth grader before capturing a high school title in 2007. He competed twice in the AAU Junior Olympics and is solid in the triple jump as well.

Austin Gilbert, Peoria

Manual

A beneficiary of the Rams’ drop to Class A in recent years, the senior posted the sectional’s top time in the 100-meter dash and is competing in three events. He’s the lone member of his team to get this far. Earlier this week he posted a time of 10.68 in the 100 during an honor roll meet.
