Dental exams offered at Sarah Bush Lincoln

MATTOON — Dental exams will be offered on Monday by the Women and Children’s First Dental Program for eligible children throughout the area who have not yet met the state requirements of a dental exam.

The free clinic will be held in the Lumpkin Family Center for Health Education at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.

“This will also be a great opportunity for students entering kindergarten, second and sixth grades in the fall to get their dental exam completed,” program coordinator Monica Dunn said.

Eligible children include recipients of Medicaid, AllKids insurance, formerly known as KidCare, or free or reduced lunch. The clinic will provide services to eligible children who were absent from school the day the dental clinic visited this year at schools in Coles, Cumberland, Moultrie, Shelby and Effingham counties.

Dental exams are available only by appointment and may be made by calling the toll-free number: 1-888-511-2673.

Dunn explained that through the dental clinic, children will receive a teeth cleaning with a fluoride treatment and sealants to help prevent tooth decay. A dentist also will be present to examine the children’s teeth.

The Women and Children¹s First Dental Clinic is partially funded through a grant to provide access to care for children for at least one dental exam a year.
