Bundren to be youth pastor at First Southern Baptist Church

MATTOON — The Mattoon First Southern Baptist Church will welcome Jeremy Bundren as youth pastor on May 1.

He was ordained for the Gospel ministry last summer at the Second Baptist Church in Marion. He has a master of arts degree in Christian education: children’s ministry. He graduated in December from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky.

Bundren has been involved in children’s ministry since the fall of 2003, when he served at a Baptist church in Marion, Ind., teaching, leading children’s activities and planning and helping to organize summer camps and vacation Bible school.

He served as a volunteer at the Marion, Ind., YMCA, working with inner city children; worked as a camp counselor for children at the Frankfort, Ind., YMCA; and worked with children as teacher’s aide in that city’s school system.

He also has served as a small group leader for incoming freshmen at Indiana Wesleyan University, served as a soccer coach, and worked with the big Brothers and Big Sisters of Kentuckania.

Bundren currently lives in Camden, Ind., and will be relocating to Mattoon. He was elected by the Congregation of First Southern in a unanimous vote on April 6.

The church is located at 3521 DeWitt Ave. and is pastored by Dr. John Calio.
