Lakers lose GRAC opener, maybe Bird to knee injury

CENTRALIA -- Kaskaskia battered four Lake Land pitchers for 15 hits as the Lakers lost Saturday’s Great Rivers Athletics Conference opener.

But Kevin Bird’s knee injury might be the Lakers’ more lasting concern for Lake Land

“Kevin Bird has a tear in a knee ligament,” Lake Land coach Jim Jarrett said. “He may not play the rest of the year. He’s to see a surgeon this week.”

Blake Wolfe went 3-for-3 to lead Lake Land’s nine-hit offense on Saturday.

A home doubleheader against Kaskaskia has been rescheduled for 2 p.m. April 16.

Lake Land’s next game is set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at home against Heartland College.
