Mattoon FFA to give away farm safety equipment

MATTOON — Starting next week, the Mattoon High School FFA chapter will begin offering safety equipment to area farmers at no cost. The free items include slow moving vehicle (SMV) signs, farm equipment flashers and first-aid kits.

The chapter collected $1,200 from the Alliance Pipeline Community Safety Grant program and the Illinois FFA to pay for supplies for the equipment giveaway. Materials will be available during business hours beginning Monday at the Coles County Farm Bureau, 719 W. Lincoln Ave. in Charleston.

Free supplies will be on-hand at the MHS Agriculture Department classroom commencing March 31.

“This project is important because it involves our FFA chapter with the community, while providing a service to our local farmers,” said Joy Vanneste, MHS FFA chapter sentinel.

The items are available on a first-come-first-served basis.

For more information, call MHS ag teacher and FFA advisor Ryan Wildman at 238-7896.
