Lightning likely cause of Oakland house fire

OAKLAND — Lightning was apparently the cause of a fire Monday afternoon that severely damaged an Oakland home.

Oakland firefighter Randy Strader said no injuries were caused by the fire that ignited at the home of the Ted Huber family northwest of Oakland. He said none of the occupants were at home when the fire started.

Firefighters were dispatched about 3 p.m. to the two-story home, Strader said. Oakland and Hindsboro firefighters were on the scene for more than two-and-a-half hours.

“It sustained major damage,” Strader said.

The fire appears to have ignited from lighting striking the home’s roof or television antenna, according to Strader. He said the fire burned through the roof and caused major damage to the upper floor. He said the rest of the house suffered smoke and water damage.
