Wanless makes second bid to become EIU's AD

CHARLESTON – Football coach Bob Spoo was one of the few familiar faces to Terry Wanless, returning to Eastern Illinois’ campus 19 years after the first time he interviewed for the school’s athletics director position.

The Student Recreation Center added to the Lantz Building was one of the biggest changes Wanless noticed.

Now the Sacramento State athletics director, Wanless during a Monday afternoon session open to the public listed integrity, academic excellence, financial stability and athletic achievement as the four staples he would try to bring to Eastern if chosen as athletics director.

Wanless, who has been the AD at Sacramento State since 2002 after spending three years in private business following a 1990-1999 stint as North Dakota’s AD, is the fifth finalist to interview at Eastern.

The public is also invited to a 7 p.m. Monday session for the Panther Club and community at the Lantz Arena Club room and a 10 a.m. Tuesday open interview session at the Martin Luther King Jr. University Union’s Martinsville Room.
