First agriculture breakfast for community ag leaders is March 12



The Coles County Farm Bureau, U of I Extension in Coles County, and Soil and Water Conservation Department have teamed up to bring agriculture leaders together to so they can mingle and discuss their current issues, events, and concerns.

The breakfast will be held on Wednesday, March 12, at 7 a.m. at the Coles County Airport. A short menu will be available for those who would like to order their own breakfast.

Jim Kunkle, Illinois Department of Agriculture, is the featured speaker and will address the issue “Premise Identification and Animal ID.” Those attending will also have an opportunity to share information about their organization or business and suggest issues of concern for future meetings. A table will be available for fliers, brochures and business cards to share with everyone.

To register, please call Coles County SWCD at 345-3901, ext. 3, by Thursday March 6. Reservations will be taken on a first-call basis and limited to the first 35. Plan to join us on the 12th.

Cross County Mall Farm Show Feb. 29 to March 2

The Coles County Farm Bureau will be holding our Annual Farm Show at the Cross County Mall in Mattoon on Feb. 29 through March 2.

On Friday, area students will be given tours, demonstrations, and hands-on projects sponsored by the Coles County Farm Bureau Women’s committee and local FFA members from 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.

The Annual Quilt Show will also run from Feb. 29-March 2 during the regular hours of Cross County Mall. You may register your quilt for the show on Thursday from 1 to 7 p.m. at the Cross County Mall in the former Goods Sports store.

Friday evening entertainment will be presented by Heart Song. This family oriented performance is free to the public and is sure to be a hit.

The Country Side Spinners and Weavers will be demonstrating their spinning and weaving skills Saturday from 1-3 pm.

The Coles County Farm Bureau Young Farmer Committee will be sponsoring a pedal tractor pull for children up to 100 lbs. on Saturday. Sign-up will begin at noon with the pull beginning at 12:30 p.m. in the Mall Center Concourse. There will be three weight classes starting with the 50 lbs. and under class, the 51-75 lb. weight class, and the 76-100 lb. weight class. Weigh-in will be taken prior to the race. You must have your child weighed in at sign-up in order to participate.

Touched by Grace will be performing their gospel music at the Center Concourse at 1 p.m. Sunday.

The Eastern Illinois Antique Farm Equipment club will be displaying many of their tractors and farm equipment at the show. This club has a great variety of equipment and tractors that will delight the collector in anyone.
