Teenager arrested in connection with recent Villa Grove burglaries

VILLA GROVE — A teenage boy was arrested in Villa Grove Thursday in connection with a home invasion and other recent burglaries in Villa Grove.

The Villa Grove Police Department and Douglas County Sheriff’s Office were called to a home invasion at 7:50 a.m. Thursday. The resident had been awakened by someone in their house, according to a release from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Following an investigation at the scene, police were able to obtain a search warrant at a mobile home in the northeast part of Villa Grove.

There, police arrested the male juvenile for his suspected involvement in the home invasion and recent burglaries. Also arrested was Shaun Chandler, 21, of Villa Grove on unrelated arrest warrants issued in Indiana.

Officers recovered property taken from the home invasion and other burglaries that have taken place recently during the execution of the warrant, the release said.

Two more people have been identified and the investigation into the burglaries continues, the release said.

The Arthur Police Department, the East Central Illinois Task Force and Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services assisted in the investigation.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation or any crime can contact the Villa Grove Police at 832-2511, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office at 253-3511 or the Douglas County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-280-8316. Information provided to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous.
