Andersons open family restaurant in Neoga

NEOGA — A longtime bar and grill in downtown Neoga has reopened under new ownership with an emphasis on family dining.

Phil and Connie Anderson, along with daughters Kim Harford and Katie Westendorf, launched Town & Country Restaurant in October. The restaurant is located just south of the four-way stop in Neoga.

“I wanted to own a local business; I wanted a business that could be handed down to my grandchildren and one that I would feel comfortable taking them to,” said Phil Anderson.

Although the Andersons plan on eventually having a bar area in the restaurant, their focus is on the dining room suitable for everyone.

“I could see the flaws in the business as it had been run in the past,” Anderson said. “I felt that a bar and grill has a limited customer base. I envisioned removing the bar from the dining area, providing a fine family-oriented dining atmosphere, and secluding the bar to a separate part of the building.”

Ryan Gowin serves as chef at Town & Country, which features “meat and ‘taters” type of fare, according to Anderson.

“We offer meals like liver and onions, sauerkraut and other meals that some people can’t get at home,” he said.

In general, Town & Country offers pork, beef, chicken and shrimp dinners, along with food such as sloppy joes, ham and beans, etc., said Anderson.

The family remodeled the interior of the restaurant, and intends to refurbish the exterior once the weather clears in the spring. “But it’s what’s inside that counts,” Anderson said.

“The interior is spacious, clean, and the quality and quantity of food will astound you.”

He said the community has already given “overwhelming” support.

“I feel blessed by building the type of restaurant that I wanted to see, and the way the people of this community have come to enjoy it,” Anderson said.
