Lake Lake College board expected to name Lensink president Monday night

MATTOON — The Lake Land College Board of Trustees will consider appointing a permanent president for the institution tonight.

The most likely candidate is Scott Lensink, appointed interim president of the community college on June 21. He replaced Bill Thallemer, who resigned in May during a dispute with board trustees after less than a year on the job.

The board meeting starts at 6 p.m. in Room 081 of Webb Hall at the main campus. Action on the president position will take place after closed session late in the meeting, according to the agenda.

Lensink has taught classes, coached athletics and headed academic departments at the college. He was vice president of academic services before he accepted the interim presidency.

In the past six months, the college has opened its new regional education center at Marshall and broken ground for a major expansion at the West Building.

In addition, the college has moved ahead with alternative energy projects like wind and geothermal efforts. This week, Lake Land will open its new fitness center.

Tonight, board members will consider a resolution abating $2.2 million worth of general obligation bonds levied for tax year 2007, and an articulation agreement with Greenville College.

Policy changes on vacations and supervisory staff are also on the agenda, plus approval of grants.

" Just out of curiosity, I'd like to know what alot of the folks who posted on this, back in May & June, of last year, on alot of these comment boards, about L.L.C., have to say now, about Mr. Lensink. Other than what the paper lists, about the different projects, & accomplishments, how do they feel about the job that's being done, thus far? "

" Mr. Lensick is an honorable man who really enjoys being part of Lake Land College. However, I think that this article may be a bit too early since the board meeting isn't until tonight. Scott Lensick is an experienced educator and administrator. I feel he will be a great president. He really cares for Lake Land's students, staff, faculty and community. I, personally, wanted him to be hired as president the first go around. "
