Lady Trojans win at Paris

PARIS – Charleston had to endure some Paris comeback bids and a foul-filled girls’ basketball game Thursday night.

That was certainly worth the time a 51-38 Apollo Conference win.

It marked the Lady Trojans’ first win over Paris since Jan. 6, 2001 when coach Trevor Doughty’s team prevailed 69-51.

“This is a really nice win especially on Paris’ floor,” said Jeff Miller who is now 8-1 overall and 2-0 in the Apollo in his first season coaching Charleston’s girls. “The girls played hard again. It was a great game.

“I was real pleased with our defensive effort. We held a very good Paris team to 16 points in the first half. We got in foul trouble but when you’re able to go 8-9 deep it helps.”

Paris also committed plenty of fouls trying to catch up.

Kayla Blagg converted 11 of 13 free throws and Stephanie Harper six of seven as both finished with 16 points.

Harper also had 13 rebounds and 6 steals, Caryn Asbell, Megan Corrie and Holly Wohltman had three rebounds each and Claire Dau and Wohltman had two steals apiece.

“We had at least 25 turnovers which is disappointing but it’s encouraging that we can do that and win,” Miller said.

Paris fell to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the Apollo.

Charleston is to play host to conference foe Robinson on Monday night.
