Readers want troop withdrawal to begin now

Those voting in the Journal Gazette/Times-Courier online poll say U.S. troops should come home from Iraq sooner rather than later.

Last week’s poll question said: “Gen. David Petraeus told Congress the United States could drop troop numbers in Iraq to pre-surge levels by next summer. What do you think?”

Fifty-six percent of those responding said the U.S. should withdraw troops now.

Another 21 percent said the nation should gradually withdraw and have all troops out by summer, while 23 percent said to give the military until summer 2008 before withdrawing any troops.

This week’s poll question is about the traffic congestion at Lake Land College:

“What do you think should be done about traffic flow on U.S. Route 45 and Illinois 121 in front of Lake Land College?

“1. 45 mph speed limit;

“2. Install traffic signals;

“3. Do both;

“4. It’s OK, leave it alone.”

" *sctarches her head and re-reads butterfly's comments, hoping to make more sense of them this time around*.....i'm thinking butterfly means that she agrees we should withdraw troops from iraq? i have to admit i was all for this war on terrorism when it began. i was in college during 9-11 and when we first sent troops over there and i couldn't wait to get some payback for having my sense of security violated. as time passed and more and more of my friends and family and even people i don't know went over there and never came back, i started to change my mind. i kind of wonder...if we'd been as successful as quickly as our "leaders" had hoped, who was next on the lest? iran? north korea? "

" After reading and hearing pure propaganda from the newspaper and TV 24/7 why wouldn't the populace be confused about Cut and Run or stay and win. I thought Running out of Somalia was what according to Osama bin Laden,lead to attack the paper tiger? Which he had done during Clinton's term several times and on the Twin Towers. Will the terrorist follow the troops home? "
