Area residents place in art show

EFFINGHAM — Central Illinois artists exhibited 256 pieces of art and photography from Aug. 19-25 at the Village Square Mall, U.S. Route 45 South, Effingham.
This is the Fifth Annual Show sponsored by Associated Artists of Central Illinois. This year the show was hosted by the Effingham Art Guild.
Many of the pieces were for sale. Professional artist Marilyn Truitt of Shobonier judged this show, chose awards, and gave a critique of the large number of works.
Best of Show went to a mixed media painting by Jan Von Bokel of Effingham, titled “To the Tree.”

Professional Art Division
First place: “Bits and Pieces,” a collage by Clare Smith of Effingham.
Second place: “Playa Palm II,” a pastel by Rebecca Marcussen of Effingham.
Third place: “Crocks,” a watercolor by Lynn Velasco of Effingham.
Honorable mention: “Hay Bales #2,” a watercolor by Lynn Reznick of Vandalia; “Strawberries and Pot,” an acrylic by Dale Wagoner of Kinmundy; “Savanna Memories,” a collage by John Wineke of Effingham; “Quanah Parker,” a pencil drawing by Julie Carr-Thrasher of Effingham.
Amateur Art Division
First place: “American Wild Flowers,” a watercolor by Shirley Spradlin of Effingham.
Second place: “Clouds,” an oil by Kristin Ingram of Mokena.
Third place: “Figurines,” an oil by Rose Sutton of Effingham.
Honorable mention: “Arrangement in Greys and Sepia,” a watercolor by Barbara Clarkson of Mattoon; “Abstract #4,” a charcoal by Lois Dickenson of Charleston; “Cozy Place,” a watercolor by Renee Morris of Vandalia.
Photography division
First place: “Clown,” a photo by Faiz Hasib of Charleston.
Second place: “Springtime,” a photo by Karen Kelley of Nebo.
Third place: “Rend Lake on the Water,” a photo by Debbie Arning of Walnut Hill.
Honorable mention: “Wolves At Sunset,” a photo by Mary Haag of Effingham; “May King, Kentucky Bridge,” a photo by Paul Mullinax of Ste. Marie; “Cadwell Crossion,” a photo by Harry Orr of Salem.
