Henson can't repeat in Modified class

CHARLESTON – Back after a one-week hiatus, Danny Schwartz resumed winning at the Charleston Speedway.

A week after gaining ground in the points race, Jamey Henson was towed from the track.

Schwartz, who finished third last week in the Modified feature at the I-55 Raceway in Peverly, Mo., outraced J.D. Laster and Doug Taylor to the checkered flag Saturday. Henson, the winner in Schwartz’s absence, started 14th and was moving up when contact with Chad Evans took him out of the race.

Evans took fourth while Cody Hood finished fifth after starting 18th.

In the Street Stock feature, David Shain battled from behind to win for the second time in three weeks. He caught Michael Donley after a lengthy battle for first. Donley, yet to record a feature win, finished in the top five for the seventh time this year.

Tom Bennett was a first-time heat winner and Randy Smyser captured the semi-feature.

Chris Burton snatched the points lead and won his third consecutive feature in the Hornet class, which ended without Jim Cross Jr. among the finishers. Cross Jr., the previous leader, touched Alfonso Leo down the front stretch and crossed over the berm in Turn One. Leo eventually received a black flag for rough driving.

Rookie Chuck Martin won his first heat in the Hornet division.
