Moss hired as EIU assistant director

CHARLESTON– Former University of Illinois track and field standout Tracy Moss has been hired by the Eastern Illinois University athletic department as the Panthers new assistant director for academic services. Moss is to work with EIU student-athletes in the Lantz Arena Academic Center which opened in November of 2006.

Part of Moss’ duties is to be to oversee the academic progress of certain EIU athletic teams while working with all incoming EIU student-athletes. She is also work with the Panthers community service program Extend-A-Paw and help with the EIU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

She is a 2003 graduate of Illinois and recently finished her masters from Illinois in sport management. She has worked in the Fighting Illini Academic Services department as a graduate assistant since August of 2005 helping to provide academic support to Illinois athletes. She also helped facilitate the NCAA CHAMPS/Life Skills Program and organized the CHAMPS 101 program.

“Tracy will be a great addition to our academic support staff at EIU,” stated Eastern assistant athletics director for compliance Jason Hall. “She comes in with some proven experience working at the University of Illinois and will be able to step in immediately and fill a void we have in our academic services staff. She also has the benefit of having been an NCAA Division I athlete, so she understands the balance between athletics and academics at the highest level.”

While at Illinois, Moss competed as a member of the track and field teams. She finished her career ranking in the Top 5 for discus and was a three-time Big Ten Scholar Athlete Award Winner.
