Letter: Fired up over Arthur fireworks criticism

I am writing in response to the letter written by Becky Stroud in your Wednesday edition.

I was really sorry to hear about her “traumatic” experience at the Arthur Fireworks, but I’m sure her problems could have been easily resolved...come early! Activities for the Independence Day Celebration start at 5 p.m. For the past several years, our small town of 2,500 people welcome 40,000 people to a day of food, games, fireworks and entertainment. People have been known to park days in advance to get a good seat. What time did Ms. Stroud arrive?

Otherwise, the day of the celebration the Arthur Rotary Club has three locations where they park cars and shuttle people to and from the firework site. Granted, there is a minimal $5 charge to park, but the money raised goes to the Rotary Scholarship Fund for graduating seniors who are continuing their education. (These spots also go quickly..another reason to arrive early.)

I really resent the fact that Ms. Stroud said the people of Arthur are “rude and vulgar.” I am certain the people of Arthur aren’t the ones who need a lesson in manners, etiquette and humanity because if you would have actually talked to someone from Arthur, you would have found them to be helpful, friendly and most accommodating. It’s quite obvious you only saw people along the roadways, etc., which leads me to believe they were here doing the same thing you were, looking for a place to park which also leads me to believe these people don’t live in Arthur. People in Arthur don’t need a place to park...they walk!

" I think you people need to get a life. Seriously. There are more important things out there than who said what about a fireworks show! How about starving children? Have you got worked up over that? How about gas prices? Or the price of groceries? Who cares about a stupid fireworks show or who felt insulted? I think your priorities need some SERIOUS rearranging! "
