Parts still available at Alley Theatre

CHARLESTON — There are still parts available for children in courses offered by the Charleston Alley Theatre as part of the Lake Land College Summer College for Kids programs.

Lake Land College’s Summer College for Kids aims to inspire learning in children and expose them to a variety of learning experiences.

The two courses being offered at the CAT are:

KiT@CAT Puppet Theatre — Section: CE-MUSI107-9436: Create a puppet and then make the props and sets for a puppet stage. The participants will entertain with a puppet-show performance of Sergei Prokofievs’s “Peter and the Wolf.”

— KiT@CAT Music Theatre— Section: CE-MUSI108-9437: Instrumental musicians can develop early musical theater ensemble skills. They prepare, rehearse and perform in a live orchestra musical accompaniment for “Peter and the Wolf,” utilizing unique arrangements. Participants must be able to read music and play their own instrument.

Children ages 8-18 may register. The classes will begin July 9 and run Monday through Friday until July 20 from 6-8 p.m. at the CAT. The fees for the classes are each $65, which includes all materials and a t-shirt.

Both classes end with a performance that is free and open to the public on July 21.

To register, visit www.lakeland.edu/summerkidscollege (classes located under musical notes) or call admissions and records at 234-5434. For more information, contact Johnna Morecraft, community and professional programs coordinator, at jmorecra@lakeland. edu or 234-5470.

The Charleston Alley Theatre is a small, experimental theatre, located in Charleston. Its self-imposed mandate is to do interesting, challenging shows that are not commonly done, and feature original works by new playwrights. The theatre is located at 718 Monroe Ave.
