Aurora football gets another Trojan recruit

CHARLESTON — Jeremy Shores plans to join two former Charleston High School teammates on the Aurora University football team.

A captain and defensive end last year as a Charleston senior, Shores is headed to the college where former Trojans Collin Smith and Daniel Maples are offensive linemen.

“They were a big influence in it,” Shores said. “I asked them and they said it was a good school.”

While those two teammates provided the advice, Shores did much of the work putting himself in position to play NCAA Division III football.

“Jeremy is a worker,” Charleston coach Brian Halsey said. “He shows up and goes to work. I’m excited that he has the opportunity to play at the next level. You can always count on Jeremy to roll up the sleeves and go to work. He’ll go up there and get stronger and hopefully be able to have a good career. He comes from a good family who was very supportive of our program.”

Now Shores is thankful for the college football opportunity.

“It’s great,” he said. “It’s going to be a lot of fun. I’ve always wanted to do it since I was little. Playing under coach Halsey was a big factor in that.”

The 6-foot-2, 195-pound Shores is continuing his work in preparation for this fall as he plans to major in law enforcement and looking to play junior varsity as a freshman at Aurora, which was 5-5 last season and 5-2 in the Illini-Badger Football Conference under second-year head coach Rich Duncan

“We are excited about Jeremy’s commitment to our football program,” Duncan said. “He has the long body type that we look for at defensive end and I believe he has tremendous upside. Jeremy is someone we will count on to be a key contributor during his career at Aurora University. Jeremy joins a strong incoming class of recruits to Aurora University’s football team.”
