Five doctors leaving Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center

MATTOON — Over the next several months Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center will be losing five doctors.
Those leaving include Internal Medicine Physician Richard Snowden, Pediatrician Adam Ebreo, Obstetrician-Gynecologist Sherif Malek, Orthopedic Surgeon Gaylin Lack and Neurologist Joseph Scamardo.
Sarah Bush Lincoln Physician Recruitment Director Grady Ramsey said, “Each year, we have about four or five doctors, physician assistants or nurse practitioners, out of a total of 75, leave our organization either through retirement, or their desires to relocate closer to their families. And, each year we continually work to recruit new doctors to our community to meet the needs of the local residents.
“Through a long-range plan, we have a fairly clear understanding of the types of doctors for which we need to recruit,” Ramsey said.
Snowden is leaving on July 31 to work in a group practice in Springfield with several friends with whom he completed his residency.
Ebreo and his family are leaving in August and relocating to Bloomington to be closer to his and his wife’s family.
Malek and his family are also leaving in August. He will deliver the babies he has already committed to deliver.
Lack is retiring in October and he and his wife are moving to their ranch in Idaho.
Scamardo is leaving Nov. 1, and recruitment efforts are under way to replace him.
But, Ramsey said three physicians soon will be added to the local medical community.
On Aug. 1, Dr. Kevin Stephens, a family practice physician, will begin practicing at the Charleston Family Medical Center.
Stephens earned his undergraduate degree at Southern Nazarene University, Bethany, Okla.; his medical degree at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, Oklahoma City, Okla; and his residency at The Toledo Hospital Family Practice Residency, Toledo, Ohio. He is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.
In October, Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Christopher Hogg will transition into the Orthopedics and Sports Medicine practice and next fall a third orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Aaron Eubanks, will join the practice.
Hogg earned his undergraduate degree at Radford University, Radford, Va.; and his medical degree at Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine, Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He completed his internship and residency at Midwestern University, Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Hogg is board eligible with the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery.
In addition, SBLHC officials are negotiating with a neurologist to join Sarah Bush Lincoln, bringing its neurology practice back up to two doctors.
