Kansas brings MoshFest back

KANSAS — MoshFest 2007, a two-day celebration, will be held Friday and Saturday at the Kansas Community Park.

There is no admission fee.

The event is the second annual MoshFest sponsored by the Kansas band Thorn.

This year’s MoshFest will feature 16 bands, one traveling from London and Ontario, Canada.

No alcohol is allowed and all participating bands are required to have family appropriate acts.

MoshFest tee-shirts with the names of all participating bands will be available for purchase during the event.

Bands will play 45-minute sets, with a 15-minute intermission between bands.

A car stereo competition is planned on Saturday during band set-ups, and a flea market will be open from noon to 2 p.m. on both days.

Vendors will be present during MoshFest. All activities will end at 10 p.m.

The first MoshFest was held last summer, providing area young people and families with entertainment free of vulgarities, drugs and alcohol.

Thorn has also hosted other events and assisted with the organization of fundraisers and other parties.

Original members were Delane Young, lead guitar; Ian Williamson, vocals; Amber Compton, rhythm guitar; Parick Zavoral, drums; and Gene Bradord, bass.

Two original members, Zavoral and Williamson, have left the band. Williamson joined the Navy and is starting boot camp. Zavoral is attending college in Chicago.

Jake Wombles of Paris has taken over as drummer, and Jake Pugh of Mattoon, is on vocals.

Postcards provided by the William’s family will be available for those who wish to send him a message. The cards will be sent to him all at once in the form of a “Mail Bomb.”

More information is available by contacting Thorn member Delane Young at mosh.fest@yahoo.com.
