Shelter dogs to be available for adoption

Dogs will again be available for adoption at the Coles County animal shelter beginning Monday, shelter Manager Julie Deters said.

The County Animal Rescue and Education Center is presently quarantining its dogs because of kennel cough, a cold-like respiratory affliction that’s common and spreads easily, Deters explained. The situation is being addressed and the dogs should be clear of the problem in time for adoptions to resume on Monday, she said.

The quarantine was put in place to make sure adopted dogs didn’t go to their new homes with the problem, she said. The kennel cough started from a dog the shelter picked up recently.

" Be sure to frequent www.petfinder.com to see a listing of animals available for adoption. They all deserve good homes and a family to call their own. "
