Rough weather causes area postponements, cancellations

Charleston’s varsity and freshman-sophomore baseball games at Mahomet-Seymour were rained out with makeup dates still to be determined.

Not likely to be rescheduled is Charleston’s rained-out boys’ tennis match against Champaign Central.

The Decatur Herald & Review Area Best boys’ and girls’ track meet involving numerous area athletes was postponed until next Tuesday at Millikin University.

In the Class A softball regional games the Arcola vs. Stewardson-Strasburg game was postponed to 4:15 p.m. today at Pana and the Sullivan vs. Beecher City-Cowden-Herrick game was postponed until 6 p.m. today at Bethany.

Suspended after 3 1/2 scoreless innings was Cumberland’s game against Hutsonville-Palestine in the Cumberland Regional. The game is to resume at 4:30 p.m. today with the Marshall-Effingham St. Anthony game to follow.

In the Class A baseball regional the Central A&M at Arthur against Arthur-Lovington game was postponed until 4:30 p.m. today and the Sullivan against Okaw Valley contest at Bethany was postponed to 4:30 p.m. today. The Cumberland at Windsor game was suspended in the second with runners on first and second and no outs for the Blue Devils. Cumberland leads 4-0. The game is to be resumed at 4:30 p.m. today at Effingham’s Evergreen Park. The winner is to play Effingham St. Anthony following the conclusion of the contest.

The Urbana at Mattoon varsity baseball game was postponed after three batters in the top of the first because of rain. The game is to be rescheduled at a date to be determined.

The Mattoon at Champaign Centennial varsity softball game was suspended in the bottom of the second with one out and one strike on the batter with the Lady Wave leading 10-0. The game is to resume at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

The Mattoon boys’ tennis match against Mount Zion was postponed as was the Champaign Centennial at Mattoon junior varsity softball game. Both events could be rescheduled at a later date or canceled.
