Massengill strikes out 10 as Neoga beats Arcola

NEOGA – David Massengill faced his former school for the first time in his high school career and had 10 strikeouts and allowed four hits, plus he had a two-run home run in the five-run first inning as Neoga downed Arcola 13-1 in a game called after four and a half innings due to the 10-run rule.
Wes Letizia had a solo home run in the first and Shaye Albert had a two-run homer in the first as all five runs came via the long ball. Letizia drove in three runs and Alex Walk drove in two as Neoga improved to 10-3 ahead of Saturday’s game at Patoka.
Ed Leal had two singles for Arcola who is to travel to Bethany to face Okaw Valley in a Little Okaw Valley Conference contest at 4:30 p.m.

Sullivan falls to St. Anthony
SULLIVAN – After a scoreless three innings, Effingham St. Anthony scored a run in the fourth and four in the fifth in an 8-3 victory over Sullivan Tuesay in a non-conference game.
Mitchell Hemrich and Kalen Whitney drove in a run each for the Redskins. Bryce Weaver gave up seven runs, but only three were earned in the loss as Sullivan committed seven errors.
The Redkins, 5-9, are to play host to Meridian at 4:30 p.m. today in an Okaw Valley Conference game.

Comets lose to T-Town
STRASBURG – Stew-Stras’ baseball team lost by a large margin, 12-0, on Tuesday in a National Trail Conference game to Teutopolis. The Wooden Shoes scored seven runs in the first four innings and then five in the sixth to get the win. Stew-Stras was unable to get a runner as far as third base the entire game.
Steven Thomas and Ben Giertz had the only two hits for Stew-Stras, they each had a single.
The Comets, 10-5-1, are to travel to Effingham today to face St. Anthony in another NTC game at 4:30 p.m.

Biggs shuts down Oblong
OBLONG – Casey-Westfield sophomore Taylor Biggs came in to the Little Illini Conference game Monday with his team trailing 4-2. Biggs pitched the final four innings and allowed just two hits with eight strikeouts as the Warriors won 13-4.
Biggs was also 3-for-4 at the plate with a triple and a home run and three runs batted in, while Logan Lakins was 3-for-5 with four runs batted in. Lydon Burson and Brennan Ragon also had three hits each.

Arcola falls
HUME – Arcola lost a Little Okaw Valley Conference game to East Central Monday, 12-2 in a game called after five innings due to the 10-run rule.
Cory Joergens was 1-for-3 with a run batted in for the Purple Riders.
East Central improved to 15-2-1 overall and 8-0 in the LOVC.

Burch and Smock homer twice each in win
KANSAS – Okaw Valley put together 11 hits on Monday to blow past Tri-County 10-2 in baseball action. Four of the 11 hits were of the home run variety with Wade Burch and Tyler Smock each hitting a pair.
Jarrod Newton was great on the mound hurling all seven innings and giving up just the two runs, while striking out nine batters.
Okaw Valley, 7-9 and 6-4 in the LOVC, are to play today at Arcola in a contest that is schedule to begin at 4:30 p.m.
